“Superstar”

Written by Tony Caldwell | May 8, 2014 11:00:26 AM

I just read about someone I would love to hire.  She is a superstar sales person who is literally the best at what she does.  She is goal driven, highly skilled as a salesperson, focused, persuasive and referable.  She could easily make a six figure income working in the insurance agency business.

Would you like her contact information?

Of course you would!  Her name is Katie Francis and she lives in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  However, her number is unlisted and she is not currently available for full time employment because she has not finished the sixth grade yet.

Katie is a “cookie superstar”.  She just set a new cookie sales record for the Girl Scouts selling an unbelievable 21,477 boxes of cookies in only 59 days!  While you can’t hire her you would like to know how she did it wouldn’t you?

Here are some things I learned about Katie:

  • She is competitive.  With herself!  Last year she only sold 18,000 boxes and is determined to beat her own personal bests.
  • She sets goals and then makes a plan to achieve them.
  •  She is interested in bigger things than her own success.  Her sales proceeds will go in part to fund cancer research and animal welfare efforts.
  • She is generous with others, shares credit for her success and celebrates her success with her team.
  • She finds meaning in her work.  “During the sale, I meet so many people that are very, very kind…I couldn’t do it without them”.

I can’t hire Katie, though I wish I could, and you can’t either!  But can we learn from her?  Can a sixth grader teach us about selling, customer service and how to be successful in life?  Absolutely!
